Born in Sunderland, England probably of noble birth, Bede's education began at age seven in a monastery. As an adult he became a monk. Most of his life was spent in prayer, writing, and practicing the disciplines of monastic life. He translated both Greek and Latin works of the early Church Fathers, making Christianity accessible to people in England.
"Prayer of St. Bede:
O Christ, our morning star,
Splendor of light eternal,
Shining with the glory of the rainbow,
Come and waken us from the greyness of our apathy."
