Many miracles are associated with this icon. There have also been many copies made. The gold background represents The Kingdom of God, the blue of Mary’s mantel, is heaven. The red of her dress, indicates her Queenhood. Mary is larger than Jesus, indicating she is larger than life. Jesus is an adult figure representing the ‘divine mind of infinite wisdom’. Archangel Michael is on the left and Gabriel is on the right with their names in Greek. They hold the instruments of His passion. Recognizing, as a child, his future, he runs to Mary who holds him close to her breast. His sandal has come almost off.
